Extract from correspondence between Alan Ayckbourn and the Stephen Joseph Theatre In The Round's press office from May 1987. Alan looking to emphasise that although Henceforward… is set in the future, it is a future that is - technologically at least - very close. (Copyright: Alan Ayckbourn)

A very rare image from the Stephen Joseph Theatre In The Round’s touring production of Henceforward…, in 1988, which was produced for end-stage venues. Designed by Roger Glossop, the steel shutters of Jerome’s flat are clearly visible amongst all the technology - something left to imagine in the original production. To the right is Master Carpenter Frank Matthews who was responsible for many ingenious solutions to Alan Ayckbourn’s production challenges over the years. (Copyright: Scarborough Theatre Trust)
In 1986, the Stephen Joseph Theatre In The Round started receiving major sponsorship for productions for the first time. Scarborough Building Society sponsored Henceforward… and here Alan (left) and the company visit the company’s offices to - apparently - learn about ‘cutting edge’ computer systems for the play. Alternatively to look awkward for staged publicity photographs… (Copyright: Scarborough Theatre Trust)
